Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations

image

This game is the last of the series featuring Phoenix Wright as the main character, and through its course, gives more details on the past of important characters such as Mia Fey and Phoenix Wright, while tying up the loose ends on the storyline set up in the previous games.

The gameplay in Trials and Tribulations remains the same as both previous titles, including the use of Psyche-Locks introduced in Justice for All. A minor change is that the player will take on the role of different people other than Phoenix Wright for certain cases within the game, but this does not alter the game mechanics.

From VDNB

Thankfully, this game blew both Justice for All and Phoenix Wright out of the water. After being sorely disappointed by Justice for All I approached this game with a certain trepidation. Justified, since I was expecting it to follow down the same path.

Tall words to say and to feel when I really enjoyed the first one. This third game… Made me feel so much, I couldn’t believe it at first. Phoenix Wright is no longer a wet behind the ears attorney, he’s no longer Mia’s pupil, he’s come into his own as an attorney and as a person. But if I had to say why this game is so good?

First:

Godot. He’s new prosecutor and did what Von and Edgeworth didn’t do: he was intriguing, he pushed you over and you barely hanged on throughout the whole game because he kept on coming for Phoenix dodgy logic.

Second:
This time all the court cases are connected and come to the final one with a bang that I was sitting on the edge of my seat completely taken in and anxious to discover why Godot is our enemy and what happened for this whole thing to come to pass.

It did not disappoint. The climax was the best and this became my favorite of the games, knocking the previous two out of the water.

If you decide to play, this is the best for deep characters and a very involving story-line, and the murders/mysteries are even better.

I don’t even have words to describe how good and seamless this was to reach an amazing conclusion. I can see why after this game it took so many years (with a change of protagonist) to make a fourth game:

They couldn’t have easily topped this one.

Happy gaming everyone! ヾ(@^▽^@)ノ

Have you heard about this game before? Have you played it? If so, I’d love to know what you think of it!

  1. This is still my fave AA game compared with PW and JFA. I had high hopes after finishing PW but JFA came and it was so-so. Then Trials & Tribulations happened and it totally blew me away. ww And yes, Godot is freaking awesome (I do miss Edgy-poo though lol).

    1. I felt exactly the same! /high five
(Apollo is on the same level of this one for me, that last case blew me away with how good it was /fangirl squeals)
Edgeworth was too busy making a mediocre investigation badum tss /had to go there (〜^∇^)〜

Got to love how everything was nicely done in that last case!
Is that a Miles Investigation reference? xD

        1. It was genious, really good writing ( ˘ ³˘)❤
          Indeed it was! ƪ(‾.‾“)┐
/loves to jab about Edgeworth’s second job
Specially since the game wasn’t on the level of PW, much less the amazingness that was Trials or Apollo (¬_¬)ノ

          1. Investigations is quite an interesting take on Edgy’s side of things. But it certainly doesn’t have the kind of stories/cases that main AA has. Plus I don’t really like his sidekick lol.

            1. I’m actually sad Gumshoe got dropped from the mainline, he was kinda cute in a very dumb way xD
Yeah AA Investigations… Clearly didn’t have Shu Takumi behind the direction and story writing and it showed ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°

  2. I haven’t had the time to play it yet…mind you I spent 3 years tracking down a copy of it first, no one seemed to have a copy! I am so glad to read that it’s actually good, I might have cried if after all that work it wasn’t a good game.

    1. Oh, it’s so good! One of the reasons I’m so happy Capcom got their head out of their ass and compiled the trilogy to 3DS and also made them available for tablets. The games definitely deserve more audience, and if they can’t be found they can’t be played! (Unless piracy, which let’s be honest, when games aren’t even being issued anymore it’s the only option left, sadly.)
I hope now I didn’t hype you too much for the game, but I think even with high expectations the game delivers. I’ve played it twice and loved it even more the second time around (♥ó㉨ò)ノ♡
(Psst, the 4th game is real good, tomorrow it’ll appear on the blog. Don’t tell anyone /laughs)
Ah, one sad thing: Capcom seems to only be making available the trilogy available but the 4th game isn’t available outside of the DS ಠ_ಠ I’m not seeing them compile Apollo Justice with the 3DS games since it uses 2D like the trilogy…I wonder if they plan to make it at all available or if it’ll disappear from the gaming ether ORZ

        1. (Psst, Investigations will be coming too.)
I don’t have any of the 3DS games, I don’t have the console. I haven’t decided if I’ll buy it considering all the new interactions of the console that make me side eye Nintendo. It’s also because there’s like 4 or so games I really want for it and I’m not sure it’s a good investment for just a a couple games /frustrated
          The 3DS games look really good, I’m so envious. I wonder if the new one announced is only going to be playable on the New 3DS or what. Fucking Nintendo and their misleading names oo;

            1. Aren’t they saying Nintendo will bring a new portable after the NX? I kinda want to wait and see if it’ll be 3DS compatible or not before buying. I’m kinda distrustful after Sony fucked with me with the Vita /pets lovingly

                1. My Vita is very unloved at the moment. I blame my new obsession with Love Live and my PSP and DS backlog. I haven’t even finished Final Fantasy 10-2 though I bought the pack last year…or was it 2 years ago? /lost in time, holy crap
I’m still mad Sony stopped pushing the Vita and it became a PS4 remote in their eyes. They did no justice by it. I’ll be really surprised if they actually make a new portable after the no support towards Vita.
Yeah, I heard that Nintendo has the new portable in the pipeline alongside the coming console, but it’s rumours. Where there’s smoke there might be fire, so I’m waiting to see. Nintendo games don’t drop price so waiting doesn’t kill anything haha
