The first of the four Starry Sky games starring the characters from the drama CD’s of the same name.
Starry Sky takes place at Seigatsu Gakuen, a school which specializes in horoscopes, astronomy and other related topics. The main characters are all based on horoscopes.
Starry Sky Spring features Suzuya Tohzuki (Cancer), Kanata Nanami (Pisces) and Yoh Tomoe (Capricorn). It follows main character Tsukiko Yahisa, who’s the first girl to enroll in the school, and her first semester there, which she spends with her childhood friends Suzuya and Kanata along with Yoh, a transfer student who came from France.

Tidbit Info
I was supposed to have started this game in February but since Tsukiko, the MC, has monologues and dialogue, I got afraid and just decided to keep doing N4, with two astronomy vocabulary/kanji because the game uses such terms, and started it in March to finish in April (which later got changed to May for our game group, but what’s done is done).
My Studies Progress
I quickly discovered during Amnesia, and this game furthered that opinion, that I didn’t particularly enjoy kanji search.
First: it’s hard to find them even with audio, because it can be written in such a numerous ways (since I don’t hear double consonants that well);
Second: Without audio, it’s through radicals or if I know the kanji separate but not together.
The first is harder to find, to be honest, since the second I have an idea what it is from both kanji. So I came up with my foolproof plan to not get tired or exhausted while trying to play: I simply don’t search. Do I miss stuff? Sure, but I also understand from context, or I simply don’t care that much that I’m not understanding every single line. I started N3 at the same time I started the game, and my opinion is when I get there, I get. I also learn much more from the characters talking between themselves, repeating the words, than if I just stop to search or go to study.
So that’s my tidbit advice: if it’s boring or tiring to look up words, just don’t. You’ll learn them in due time. I sometimes look up one word or another, specially katakana, if I feel they’re repeating them a lot or important. I’m glad I decided to go down this route, because otherwise I don’t think I’d have successfully continued the game or finished a single route.
I got tired of studying (depression kickied my sorry ass) and my N3 studies slowed to a crawl, and I decided to just go for it and finish the game.
This game is voiced, but the heroine isn’t, so I largely overlooked her dialogue (I read the hiragana and the kanji I know and skipped what I didn’t know, or hadn’t seen yet in the game).
The game covers from 9 of March in game to 29 May. March isn’t a Spring month, but whatever it’s not very important!
If you followed my #starryskyspring on Twitter while I played, you saw how I wanted them to be in a polyamorous relationship, making a lovely four part sandwich! Whenever Kanata and Yoh started fighting/arguing I just wanted them to fuck already, that’s how much they smoldered! (>y<) /inner fujoshi showing through
I was very amused by the dynamics of the group. Kanata and Yoh being childish/the children, while Suzuya was the mother and Tsukiko the father everyone wanted to get attention from. It comes as no surprise that the four of them are crybabies, even if they front as mature or tough, and it made them all just so precious ;v;
The first ending I got was the forever alone, then I decided to go for Yoh, Kanata and Suzuya in that order. I decided on Yoh first because I really liked the after credits scene on the forever alone ending! (⌒▽⌒)
I was using the PC version guide, and I couldn’t get his Best Ending, which turns out was because Portable has more options and an extra ending for each guy. So I had to Google to find this guide for the portable version, and then it went smooth sailing! (≧∇≦)/
One thing I really enjoyed: I did it in order from Normal, Good and Best ending, and discovered the in a second play through of the routes (doesn’t matter the order) you’ll see an extra POV and scenes by the guy you’re chasing! It felt very organic, and really good, and it deepened my understanding of them ❤
Little note: Kanata’s story really moved me, and made me all choked up!
Now to the for the difficulty of the game based on where I am on my studies evaluation!
Difficulty: 3/5 (because I did the astronomy terms studies beforehand, otherwise it’d be a 4/5)
Recommended to: Beginners, some 100-200 basic kanji will make your life easier for the narration parts.
Happy gaming everyone and keep learning! “ψ(`∇´)ψ
Have you heard about this game before? Have you played it? If so, I’d love to know what you think of it!
Aaaaaaaah! Another temptress trying to beckon me to the dark side and play otoge. -___-
I must resist. . .I know that I’ll get addicted. But I enjoy hearing about various otome games and just satisfy myself with feeling envy. XD
I hear that the Starry Sky game is so much better than the anime adaptation. I didn’t like the anime at all, but the art is really nice and of course, the guys are HOT!

Come to the dark side, we have cookies 😛
Aaah, hearing about the games is not the same as playing. That’s the same as going by other people’s reviews of anime and manga, so go playyyy! x)
I haven’t seen the anime, otoge adaptations usually aren’t well executed because of the routes
The art is amazing, and there’s 8 games, 4 main and 4 fandisks, and they’re so cute and fluffy! Plus they’re a good series to start learning Japanese with 😛
Thanks for the lovely comment ❤

Ah! Not cookies. Gosh, you know my weakness. I want chocolate-chip ones, okay?
I know, right? I’m not proud of it, that’s why I’m feeling envious of others talking about it instead of playing. It’s just that I know my personality and I’m just sure that I’ll get addicted to otome games once I start playing them. At this point in my life, I can’t afford to get addicted to them. Perhaps when things are more stable for me. . .we’ll see. Sigh. But thanks for the temptation. . .er, I mean “invitation”. You should totally meet one of my blogging buddies, Neko-chan at her blog Otoge Meow. She also blogs about otome games and also one of the evil temptresses who never fail to tempt me to join the dark side.

Chocolate-chip, yuuuum :Q double batches for us! ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ
As long as you promise you’ll join the dark side one day, I say then you’re good x)
No, but now seriously, definitely don’t go down the rabbit hole if you aren’t in a good place at the moment. Otoge can be really time consuming, plus there’s the whole pesky, learn Japanese if you want to play exclusive games (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
The invitation is always open ufufufu
Evil temptresses unite! /sailor moon transformation
Neko-chan is doing a good job then 😛 I like her reviews, so you’re definitely in good company! /high five
So at the moment, what are you addicted to? –^

Ahaha! Thanks. I’ll keep that in mind, so save those chocolate-chip cookies for me, just in case.
Indeed, they look like they’re time-consuming, that’s why I’m very cautious around them. No problem with the Japanese. Mine’s not perfect but I get by. Oh my gosh. I need to protect myself more if you evil temptresses are going to unite and try constantly beckoning me towards the dark side.
Hmmm. At the moment, I’m on a Gundam spree. Just got into it this year, and there are sure LOTs of series available to watch. Lots of hot guys, too, so even if they’re vastly different from our topic otome games, they still strum my strings with their line-up of hot guys. 😉

I’ll reserve a batch for you! (*^▽^*)
Most otome games can be played in a week in terms of length, they’re way less time consuming than for example RPG. Starry Sky in Spring for example took me around 20 hours because I’m really green in learning, I know people have cleared it all in 10-15 hours, which is about the same length as a lot of AAA games (☆^ー^☆) /entices you
Nice, if you can get by that means nothing is stopping you 😛
Come to the dark side and become a badass evil temptress too!ヽ(*⌒∇⌒*)ノ
I’ve never watched Gundam, though the art of some really intrigues me/calls to me :Q
Japan is the land of hot 2D guys ヽ(*≧ω≦)ノ
There’s a reason I’m super into sports, I like the passion and motivation, but it really helps they’re hot dudes playing (☆^O^☆)
I’m currently in the Ace of Diamond/Daiya land, eagerly waiting Haikyuu and Yowamushi Pedal, while I try to improve my Japanese to be able to be surrounded by more hot dudes. I haven’t been feeling like studying, I might have burned out because how intensively I’ve been studying since December :,)
Aah, the things we do for hot 2D men ~(^◇^)/

Ahahaha! You really are an evil temptress. You’re right. Nothing & no one is really stopping me except myself. We’ll see. Perhaps when I get over my fear of becoming addicted to it, I’ll jump and join your dark side. Hmmmm. Temptress has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it. 😉
And you’re so right about that. The things we do for 2D men. 😉

Loved the review! I did that in DL with double consonents! At one point I heard kuse (habit) but then subaru mentioned the mukami’s kusee (stink) totally messed me up for a sec.
I totally ignored what the MC was saying too but mostly because from the stuff I was reading at at first made her look like more of a doormat. (҂⌣̀_⌣́)
I want to play Starry Sky so bad!

Thank you! (☆^ー^☆)
Double consonants are definitely evil to catch (҂⌣̀_⌣́)
I liked Tsukiko, specially when she teased the boys and their faces/reactions were hilarious xD
SS is definitely nice and cute, very fluffy and light, so if you’re used to an eventful otoge, it sure isn’t. Just so you know and don’t build expectations of the sort (>y<)
I’m going to play SS in Summer next, gotta reduce that backlog :’D

Awesome review! I like that you incorporated you Japanese language learning into the review! It should be super helpful for people trying to learn through gaming. The forever alone ending sounds interesting, IDK if the PC version has it, but maybe I’m not playing right lol

My blog hidden secret: it's about my learning Japanese for otome games xD
Thank you, one of my goals is helping people that are trying to learn Japanese and want to play otome games but get overwhelmed ~(^з^)-☆
The forever alone is the canon ending in a way, considering there's 3 other games he he It's really, she stays friends with all 3. You get it by choosing different dudes dates, so you don't have enough points to raise a flag and enter their route. But then, the PSP version does have like double the choices, so I don't know. Someone should go see if there's a comparison/something out there telling the differences, since I didn't play the PC version :'D
