Tales of Link

ales of Link (テイルズ オブ リンクTeiruzu obu Rinku?) is a Mobile Title in the Tales series for iOS and Android devices. Okitomo Shiratori is the main producer of the game, while Ryuuji Oodate is the project producer. The game’s plot consists of the player taking the role of an amnesiac Saviorand venturing on a quest with a young adventurer named Sara and the divine sprite Lippy to seal the seeds of ruin.

Is basically a Puzzles and Dragons clone, down to the UI, and with a Tales of skin. Mind you that’s not a fault, it’s just I do wish the UI wasn’t a clone because I don’t very much think it’s intuitive or pretty to look at. The one game I wish got cloned but doesn’t is Love Live, specially now with the new updates, it’s gotten even better. But I digress into LL hell (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I find the game isn’t very well thoughtout in terms of energy. At the beginning, you get more energy than you can spend and will quickly level up, making it an even wider pool. But then it becomes a one fail = can’t play anymore and gotta wait because no energy. Not to be annoying or anything, but on LL that happens by choice of difficulty, here it’s just inescapable.

It’s fine, I know. You don’t have to scream that LL is a rhythm game and Tales of is an RPG/bejewelled hybrid. Yes, I do know. I just didn’t get wowed and enrapted by it. I also didn’t like how I discovered it was taking 1gb of space on my limited space (⌒_⌒;)

But then, I suppose this game isn’t for me. I’m not what you can call a Tales of fan. The only Tales of game I played and finished was Tales of Legendia, which was pretty bland but I got suckered in by the anime aesthetic back then. I haven’t played any of the others, though I did one of the PSP ones and ragequit. One day I might explain why I did.

What I mean is: I don’t know who these characters are or why I should give a fuck when the game itself started as nice but then become a bit tedious. But I’m also grumpy as fuck and have been around way too many years in console/portable RPG to get addicted to it. I have a hard time finishing games, and also starting, and continuing playing, so blame me. I don’t mind ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ

All in all, I’ll say if you like Tales of, or like Puzzle and Dragons, then this is the game for you. Sadly, it isn’t for me (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Happy gaming everyone and have fun! (*^▽^*)

PS: I tots swipped that screenshot from Tales of app because I forgot to screenshot when I played it, and deleted it. I wasn’t about to install it just for it (⌒_⌒;)

Have you heard about this game before? Have you played it? If so, I’d love to know what you think of it!

  1. The only Tales game I have beaten is Xillia and I suck at Puzzle Dragons. This probably isn’t a game for me either.
