Hybrid Child Milked All My Feels

Most know Shungiku Nakamura as the mangaka of Junjou Romantica, which in my opinion is her weakest work. Her Sekaiichi Hatsukoi was head and shoulders above JR, and one of my favorites. I’m quite fond of lost lovers finding themselves again. But the one story that grabbed me by the throat and made me cry rivers, was Hybrid Child.

I first read this manga back when it came out fan-subbed, and it hurt a lot. I was expecting another rape/coercion story like her JR, but it was not. It was magical, fantastic and depressive. It made me putty and made me cry. I was devastated. So being the emotional masochist I am, when I discovered it got adapted? I was on it like bees to flowers!

First is that this story gained a lot by being animated. The colors, the camera pans, the OST, really enhanced these amazing short stories. It also helped me keep track of who is who, because this mangaka tends to make really similar dudes and I lose who is who. But it’s not just this one, I suffer of that a lot. I need color to help me, and voice is a nice bonus to complement it.

Either way, the animators were true to the source and didn’t deviate from the plot of the manga, and like I said: I honestly believe it enhanced the original. This adaptation has gorgeous transitions, I’m a sucker for really good transitions. Heck, one of the reasons I was so enchanted with Haikyuu! besides the cute boys, was the way it was directed.

This isn’t as known as her other work, probably because it’s short and short stories. But it is so worth it, if you haven’t read or seen this yet, I advise you to get on it! Feelings and BL go along very well, and though I do wish it was racier, it has some nice kissing and handsome boys ~(^◇^)/

Have you heard about this serie before? Have you seen it? If so, I’d love to know what you think of it!

    1. This isn’t a major work, it’s short stories in 1 volume, I believe, but it has so much depth and story to it, I can definitely see why they chose to animate it. Plus all her works get really good views, so I figure it’s also why they decided to animate it.
Definitely see it, it’s really good and more mature! 👌

  1. Ohh, I haven’t seen this one! I did love Sekaiichi Hatsukoi though, so I should give this one a shot. I’ve been wondering if I should watch Junjou Romantica since I stumbled upon Sekaiichi. I’ve tried looking for similar anime but they are few and far between!

Thanks for this post! I’ll have to look for it now!

    1. You need to!
Not a lot of BL gets animated, but Loveless is a strong show, and manga, and JR is…not that good, but if you feel like you still wanna watch it, then go for it!
Ai no Kusabi is to be seen once you’re comfortable with sex being voiced, also it has really dark, twisted themes~
Do tell me what you think of it! 😊✨

      1. I watched Love Stage! I was more interested in the older Brother’s story!! HAHA! I wish they had animated that! I will look for these!! Thanks for sharing!! I will definitely let you know.

        1. Ooh, 👀 Love Stage was real good 👌👌
The older brother has a LN and manga spinoff about him and Rei, which I’m stoked for hoho ✨✨
Do hit them up and then return to hit me because you didn’t like them, or to high five me because you loved them 😹
Yuri on Ice is a great introduction too 👀👌👌

  2. Nope, I haven’t seen this short story yet so thank you for writing this post! I agree, JR wasn’t that good (although I’m partial to the Nowaki-Hiroki pairing). Sekaiichi Hatsukoi was way better.

I will definitely check this out! The main characters resemble Akihito and Onodera (a crossover) LOL! Anyway, thanks again for sharing!

    1. You need to see it! 👌
JR, aside the Nowaki and Hiroki pairing, was a travety tbh, Sekaiichi was definitely a stronger work, and this one is really strong too!
Do see it, I’m curious what you’ll think of it 😊✨
