It’s been out for a day now, but not only am I a slow poke I also wanted to first play it for a bit. Today there was also BTS performing at SMA so guess who turned on vlive when they came on? It is moi 😹
So I’m late to this party, but it’s okay cause I also want to give my thoughts about the game 😉
If you don’t know yet, this is made by the same team that did the mobage of Love Live, Klab. I say this because it’s basically a resin of the Love Live game, some things are different, but the core is largely the same. This means if you’ve played Love Live, you know how to play Utapri.
At the moment there’s a campaign for first time players to get a guaranteed UR of their choice. I chose Natsuki for Ur and Masato to be my fave idol. They were my faves from the 2 anime seasons I watched, but tbh I don’t really have opinions. I just chose them because I like their voice and singing the best.
As I said, the core game play is the same so cards have attributes: dance, charm, voice. Each song has an attribute so the point is to gather strong cards from each attribute to pass them with high scores and get gems to do pulls and get even better cards.
If you get distracted by the visual effects, or the light stickers, or the boys appearing on the background, you can go to the options and then them off. It’ll also help if your phone or tablet lags while playing 👌
There’s an event running right now, where if you rank and climb it you’ll get gems and cards. The purpose is to get the event card, which is an UR.
Because UtaPri Twitter account got enough followers, they’re giving enough gems to do 1 full pull of guaranteed SR, this is what I got. Not bad, I have terrible luck usually /shakes fist at superstar bts/ but this time I got nice cards.
I now must talk about my own thoughts and views. A lot of you might not know but I quit all mobage last year because these games are basically p2w and because of the gacha frustration. There’s people addicted because these games create an environment where you NEED those high ranking cards in order to be successful at the game.
I never really realized how bad it was until I compared this game, which is p2w and thirsty for whales and gacha, to superstar bts. Bear with me now, this is not me being biased, just let me explain.
In superstar bts the score you get on a song has nothing to do with the star ranking of it. To get 3 stars on each song you need to do a Full Combo, regardless of the score. This means you can enjoy the game without getting good cards.
Score only matters for ranking in the league, which you can get good rewards on it to get more cards, but you don’t have to care about it if you don’t want to. SuperStar bts also gives more gems and rewards than Japanese mobage do. To the point my inventory is always full from doing free pulls.
Seeing them side by side like this, I realize how scammy and thirsty these games are. It’s not just utapri mind you, all the Japanese mobage I’ve tried out are like this.
This is not me saying not to play, and not to enjoy the game, it’s just me coming to the realization why I quit mobage and utapri is gonna be another of them, while I keep superstar bts.
I don’t feel pressured or compelled to play unless I feel like it with bts’ game, the same can’t be said for the other games. I also feel disheartened when best boy doesn’t come home, and not being able to get full scores even though I do full combos makes me feel dispirited.
So it’s a me thing, I’m thankful for the game being localized, though I’ve seen it has some… Cringey parts to it, but it’s not too bad. I’ll continue showing support for this game, just like I have in Twitter, but I just don’t think I have the mental space for it.
I am in no way hating on this game, but I truly don’t like how these games are made in such a way to exploit gamers
