Infinite Korean is Engaging and Fun to Learn Vocabulary

This year I picked up Korean learning again because of BTS (the Korean group), I want to understand not only the music but also them if they come to my country and I go to their concert 😭

I’ve been branching out from Memrise because I’ve found I learn better and faster when there’s an heavier focus on visual and imagery than just written words. Infinite Korean (there’s Japanese, Chinese, and other language versions too) is very visual centric, and like a game. Meteors fall and have a time limit, and can error 3 times total per level as seen by the heart meter.

Meteors introduce 1 to 2 words per level. First with audio and image, and then in a later level it introduces the spelled word. Infinite lets you choose from phonetic, aka romanja, or hangul, which is how Koreans write and read in. I must say I already knew how to identify/read hangul because I did it on Memrise. I also find it doesn’t work as well for harder/longer words like colors. But that’s just for me.

I really like the graphics and colors, it’s very engaging. The downside is if you want to access to everything in the app you have to buy it. I only did the free categories, and quite liked it, though I bypassed the colors one because I really wasn’t getting it. For simple vocabulary it teaches well, animals, fruit, vegetables, numbers.

It’s engaging and fun, though stressful too because there’s some golden meteors that are faster than the normal ones 😹💦

Paid will open up other categories, and the app totals around 200 words.

Personally I think for what it is, it’s not worth paying around 5$ just to open basic categories. I tried it out to see if I liked visual learning better, and it did in fact grab my attention better and longer. But if you find yourself wanting to invest and continuing with it, it’s your call.

A good tip I have is to make sure to 3 star levels before continuing, cause each level gets what was introduced on previous levels plus new ones. So it’s best to make sure you’re solid before continuing and learn new words.

Right now I’m trying other apps that are completely free and visual centric too, while they don’t have the quality graphics and polish of Infinite they do have the plus of being free. They also teach grammar, which Infinite doesn’t. I’m still trying them and when I’m done I’ll write about them.

I stumbled upon this one just by browsing app store because truthfully speaking there’s not enough people sharing how they’re learning Korean or sharing good resources, which is unfortunate.

Have you tried this app before? Did you like it or dislike it? Do you have any recommendations for other korean learning apps? Tell me all!

  1. I tried the Infinite Japanese app a while ago for similar reasons. It’s a shame that the full version costs so much for what it is T_T

    1. The price being what it is, is why I can’t in good faith tell people to buy it. It’s a pretty decent app, but the price tag and it being basics just doesn’t compel sadly.
I’m sure we can find a good app soon that is free or at least cheap, fighting! >_<

  4. I have not tried this app before but it looks seriously amazing. I have always wanted to try out learning some Asian language (either Mandarin, Japanese or Korean) and this looks like a fun and engaging way to learn it. It honestly all comes down to that ever present thing though: time…and not having much of it lol 😂 Great post!
