I’ve prayed to everything for this to happen, seeing it become a reality is something I seriously never expected. I’m shocked and shook beyond belief. I can’t believe I will be able to reply a 20 something year old game that I’ve waited those exact same years, a little bit less since I first played it when I was 10, to be able to play again since no Dreamcast. After Shenmue 3 (and FF7 Remake) got announced I thought I was in a dreamland, but now I sure don’t want to wake up if I am!
I was on a new tab on my chrome seeing the “News for you”, since it sometimes gives me good stuff when I saw the Gematsu article about it, you can read it here, and I thought I was hallucinating or reading it wrong, clicked and nope it’s real, it’s true, it’s even alive already on steam, you can see it here, and Sega did a tweet here! 😭
I wrote a love post to this series a while back, you can read it here, and to be honest this makes me so nostalgic and want to cry so bad. I’m so invested in this game series, and knowing 3 is coming just makes me so pumped and sob internally 😭😭
The game has aged beautifully, it’s one of those games you don’t need to touch graphically, unless it’s to fix some glitches or bugs, and touch up the controls. That’s about it. This is the game that inspired a whole generation of games. Open world games all tip their hat to Shenmue when they have NPC’s that talk and move and are A.I., because Shenmue did that and impacted the whole industry.
Man just seeing the trailer with the soundtrack brings me all the way back to my childhood, I’m obsessed with the soundtrack. It’s one of the best I’ve ever heard, still is a OST I’d want in my ears for 80 hours.

Oh geez. To be honest, I haven’t kept up with news on Shenmue 3 at all. If the 3rd one actually releases and finishes the story, I will probably get this.
I played Shenmue on Dreamcast, in fact I still have it. Rescued the console from my brother’s attic, but I need a VGA cable to play it on a new tv. Anyways I really loved it back then, especially since it was exceedingly rare to play an exploration game on console. Closest thing was point-and-click on PC, but those were usually fantasy or pirates lol. Not anything simulating real life.
The series died for me when my brother’s original xbox died, after owning it barely a year or smth. It pissed me off it was on a different console, since Dreamcast failed, and it wasn’t able to draw new fans since it was a sequel. I only was able to play the beginning of 2, and I kept getting really lost. It just didn’t start off well like the first, and I have no idea what happened after that.
I wonder if this release will be a lazy port, or if they will touch up textures (if they still have the original assets anymore) and fix bugs. Like someone reminded me of the gliching shadows. Oh god and I hope 2 doesn’t have the overwhelming “bloom” effect. I hope the whole Shenmue saga finally comes full circle. As it is, I have been playing Yakuza this year. I’ll stick with that for now.

I haven’t kept up with Shenmue 3 either, aside from the Kickstarter being successful. I do hope it all works out 🙏
Wow you still have a Dreamcast?! Jelly! I wish we still had it, but since we don’t it’s why I’m really happy they’re making the games for her available on other platforms now. So many good games that deserve to be played by everyone 👌
Actually Shenmue 2 was on Dreamcast too, I played it there, but in the West it only released in Europe while USA got it on Xbox 😅
The 2nd game was bigger, but I never got lost too bad, I think if you’d kept at it you’d have gotten it. Also it actually mirrors Ryo well, he didn’t know anything and anyone so he’d have gotten lost too 😉
2nd game was actually super gorgeous and had a lot of new characters and more intrigues, and the last parts when you finally start unraveling a bit of the story behind the discs had me shook. It ended in the biggest cliffhanger, but I was so blown away I can’t fault it. The series didn’t have the success to keep dishing out sequels of that caliber back then.
I hope it’s not a lazy port, Shenmue doesn’t deserve the mistreatment 😅
Yakuza, as the spiritual sucessor of Shenmue, did quite well, and I do want to play it too. Have fun with it, and let’s hope everything will go well for Shenmue now. It really does deserve a good sequel to finish the loose ends of the 2nd game 🙏🙏

yeah, the 2nd one on Dreamcast had to be imported and it was just bad marketing all around. The idea of importing back then was alien to me as well, like it was rare for people to be on the internet and stuff compared to now. I would like to play Shenmue again if I knew I wouldn’t be stuck with a cliffhanger. orz I hope it goes well, though I just read the 3rd one will have an end that is open for another chapter. I don’t know if it means they will tie up the arc or not.

I used to still have my PS2 but it wasn’t working well so there was no use to keep it around. Though I still have my PSP, DS and now Vita and 2DS. Hoarders for sure! 😂👌
Yeah importing was weird back then, and even now many don’t want to do it because it’s expensive so they just make a JP account and buy it digitally which is cheaper 😋
Me too, I really want to play Shenmue again. Tbh even if it has the cliffhanger I’m still yearning to listen to the music and meet the characters again 💕
Oh really? So the 3rd one won’t be last one? I guess it makes sense, they had mote than 7 games planned, but then they chopped it down to 4 or 6, I believe, so at least the conclusion won’t be too far gone 😅
I hope it does continue and give some kind of conclusion 🙏🙏

That is great news!!. When I was younger, I really couldn’t get in to the series. But now as I’m much older, the story is very interesting. Can’t wait to get my hands on it!!!.

Ooh really? Everyone I know that played Shenmue as a kid loved it, including me, but then there’s not many of us that are vocal about Shenmue so it would make sense to be us crazy folk that are vocal 😂
The story is really interesting, and I was majorly in love with all the girls and Ryo, but I’m biased 😋
I hope you enjoy it this time around, it’s certainly aged and been built upon since then, but I find I’m still quite in love with it and can’t wait to experience it all over again! 💗
