IDOLiSH7 or i7 (アイナナ, Ainana) is a combination Japanese rhythm game and visual novel mobile app released by Bandai Namco Entertainment on both Android and iOS.

The player takes on the role of Tsumugi Takanashi (小鳥遊 紡, Takanashi Tsumugi) the new manager of the seven rookie idols of IDOLiSH7, as they embark on a journey through the entertainment world, gaining experiences and growing from the many challenges they face as they rise to become the best idols!

This is a Japanese only rhythm game, in the vein of Love Live, that I find is so polished in presentation: art, fully voiced, lip movement as they speak. But has some striking flaws of itself, which has prevented me from playing or becoming very enthused about it.

To start, what jumped to me is the way this game is harder to play than Love Live. You have to flick the red crosses, change direction while holding the blue lighting, and try to keep the rhythm when the balls have a sharp drop. It’s more forgiving than LL, it counts good for the combo, but that sharp drop (even when adjusted) is a bit of a guessing game.

Another thing that jumped is that I’ve done 3 full chapters, which is a lot of story, and no songs have unlocked. When I checked, it seems they only unlock songs from chapter 4 onwards. The chapters take a long time to play/go through, and I feel it’s a bit of wasted potential that we can only play one song until chapter 4 rolls to.

I also had a problem that the western/American (?) character speaks in very accented/broken Japanese and as someone still learning, he’s a nightmare (and I promptly ran from being near him). The full voice acting is a godsend, iChu/Aichuu doesn’t have any voice acting, and this seemed so polished (and is) and I specially like how the song goes on we get to watch the concert but it is also distracting, since everything turns whiter (and the notes are white except the blue, red and green ones). Those are things I can adjust/remove, but I also want to see the concert, so I just left it as it is.

In the end, I haven’t felt very eager to continue the game, even though I think it is a pity. I really liked all about it, but if the gameplay isn’t very rewarding and the songs hard to come in, it makes it a bit…

Either way, I so think it’s a good game. It’s excellent if you want a big budget rhythm game with boys, because this certainly is! And the fandservice is stellar! Lots of belly showing, and pecs! And there’s an idol for everyone in age, from 16 go 21, so total bonus points for that!

Just proceed with caution if you’ve been spoiled by Love Live like I am o(〃^▽^〃)o

Have you heard about this game before? Have you played it? If so, I’d love to know what you think of it!
